Free Speech and Debate Help for Middle Schoolers!

Do you want your child to improve their confidence with public speaking? Are you looking to further their middle-school-debate skills?

I’m the president of the local high school debate team and I’m going to be hosting biweekly speech-and-debate help sessions throughout the end of June and July for middle-schoolers — from beginners to competitors — to improve their organization, presentation, and argumentative skills.

These lessons will be up-front in person (online) and go over topics such as how to build a proper speech, how to use and attack logical fallacies, and how to ease into a career as a competitor in a high-school program. They’ll also go over proper presentation skills and how to speak slowly and clearly. These skills are increasingly essential in a world that depends on face-to-face communication, even if your child isn’t particularly interested in competitive activity.

For more information and to sign up, please visit my website at thespeaksquare.com.

Beginners Coding Peer Group for Middle Schoolers

Hi,
If your middle schooler is interested or would like to learn coding during summer vacation, here is a great opportunity!
I’m forming a peer group for middle schoolers who’d like to learn how to code and grow together.
I attend Fallon Middle School and have gone through several in-depth Python courses. Over time I’ve realized that if I’d started learning coding with other people, it would have kept me more engaged and interested, so I now want to help other beginners experience the same.
The group will meet online every other day for three weeks and go through structured Python content, and do multiple projects. Everyone, from beginners and up, is welcome to join.
For more information, please fill-up the interest form here.

Berkeley Students offering CS/College Advising Bootcamp

Good afternoon,
We are proud to offer this 6-week course to 7th-11th graders who either have little to no computer science experience or would like to brush up on some fundamentals. As a group of UC Berkeley Computer Science students, we have designed the course based on three introductory CS classes at Berkeley: CS 10, CS 61A, and CS 61B.
We have created our curriculum to be taught in Python through a project-based teaching style, meaning that by the end of the course, students will not only have CS knowledge, but also an impressive, tangible project to put on their resumes/college applications. During the last week of the session, we will be offering a 1:1 college advising session as well as a class-wide presentation on how to effectively create a college application tailored to CS.
Logistical details are as follows:
6 weeks starting 6/16, with 2 hours of virtual instruction twice a week
5-10 students, so at worst, the student-teacher ratio is roughly 3:1.
$360 ($15 an hour)
Attached is a syllabus and an interest form so we can contact you with more details.
