Kajukenbo Karate Lessons

My name is Yaju and I am a 15 year old black belt in Kajukenbo karate. I am interested in teaching classes on Sunday mornings from 10am- 11am. (During the summer, additional classes and timings will be offered.)
What is Kajukenbo? Kajukenbo is a highly effective fusion of four different martial arts: Korean Karate, Ju-jitsu, Kenpo, and Kung Fu. Practical applications of Kajukenbo show that this karate is successful in blocking and taking down attackers. When it comes to self-defense, strong, linear punches and strikes mixed with the ingenuity of kung fu is a lethal mix.
Kajukenbo spurred my passion for the martial art. I want to keep doing Kajukenbo forever, because it’s not just defense against another person; its defense against the factors in life that will bring you down.
After every class, I felt less stressed and more confident in other aspects of my life as well. I found my grades rising and my social life becoming happier. Kajukenbo allowed me to take charge of my life and pursue a martial art with passion. As a girl, I learnt to defend myself and use size and body weight to my advantage. Now, I realize that Kajukenbo is the art that drives me and has given me the confidence and assurance I need in other areas of life.

Cost & Contact Details: Classes are one hour each on Sunday mornings from 10-11 am in my garage in the Gale Ranch area of San Ramon. Cost is $7 per class. For more information on class details, location, Kajukenbo, or my experiences with it, email me at [email protected] or call me at (510) 792 5622.

Violinist Kala Ramnath, along with the Bay area Saxophonist George Brooks, are performing under their band Global Conversation -some raga influenced jazz and some jazz inflected raga! The show is presented by Sankara Nethralaya Om Trust at Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Rd, Pleasanton, 925-339-8090 on Sunday, Sep 30 2012 7:00PM Tickets are $25, $35, $50.

Kala Ramnath belongs to a violin dynasty from India- Mewati gharana – a unique musical lineage of seven generations which straddles both the classical systems of the subcontinent. Her violin playing is characterized by an immaculate bowing and fingering technique, command over laya, richness and clarity in sur. She has revolutionized the technique of playing the violin by taking this instrument so close to vocal music that today her violin is called The Singing Violin. Kala also has been involved in the background score of the Hollywood film Blood Diamond working with composers like James Newton Howard and George Acogny.
Currently she has a series of concerts ongoing with North-South duet compositions with Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi.

George Brooks is a prolific and diverse saxophonist and composer, acclaimed for successfully bridging the worlds of jazz and Indian classical music. He is the founder of several important Indian fusion groups including Summit with Fareed Haque, Kai Eckhardt, Zakir Hussain and Steve Smith, Bombay Jazz with Larry Coryell and Ronu Majumdar and the Kirwani Quartet with Dutch harpist Gwyneth Wentink and Indian flute maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia. Brooks has taught on the faculties of Mills College in Oakland, The Jazz School in Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz. He lives in northern California.

Unique Online Hindi Immersion Program For Kids!

While most desis would like their children to know basic Hindi (or other regional mother tongues for that matter), many non-desis would find it valuable if their children could speak another language. And yes Mandarin, Spanish, but why not even Hindi, especially if you are in the Bay Area?

Problem is, where to start, and how to maintain it? Enter Cheeni for Tots’ “Let’s Enjoy Hindi in Just 13-min a Day” Program.

The program evolved from the children’s Hindi-English storytime that the founder Rakhi Sharma conducted at the Alameda County Library. And now some of her focus is moving to the Tri Valley Area since some of the initial patrons moved to this area, and she got suggestions from friends that it would be good to share it with TriValley residents as well.

More on the program:
It is a unique program with rich-multimedia content (audios, videos, Talking Board (TM), worksheets, charts, evaluation, and more), the 13-min a Day System, and weekly live, on-line, interactive sessions. CheeniForTots-Hindi-Learning-Online-Program

Research shows that a simple way to enhance intelligence, creativity, self-esteem, and academic ability in kids is to give them the gift of knowing more than one language. And, this can be valuable and can be done, even if the parents do not know the language. A very easy way to start this process is by having your kids have fun with the new language, which is the goal of the 13-Min A Day program.

The best part is the program is designed for those who have no initial exposure to, or familiarity with, Hindi and contains instructions in English, so that non-native speakers of the language (both parents and kids!) can start learning the language together, with no problems what-so-ever (thanks to our clever system and innovative tools).

To find out all the exciting details about the philosophy behind this program, the content, the secret of the 13-min A Day system,  what parents are saying, as well as registration and sign-up details, you can watch an interesting video at http://www.cheenifortots.com

Based on interest from Tri Valley Area, Cheeni for Tots could do a special webinar dedicated just to Tri-Valley parents where Rakhi could educate them more about the program and its value.

Bollywood & Indian dance classes in Tri Valley

Today, there are many dance academy or classes in the tri valley cities of San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton, Danville and Livermore. They tend to primarily cater to a growing tendency of parents to have their children train in some form of bollywood dancing, as well as some are more culturally serious and go into the dephths of Bharatnatyam and Kathan, the traditional dance forms.

Typically youngsters are attending these classes on weekends. The classes are held in one rented dance studio or another. They pick up one or two of the recent bollywood numbers and have the class learn steps to the music. The classes typically end in a performance in one of the auditoriums in the area. For the final performance, parents buy tickets which cover the cost of renting the facility and arranging for dresses, etc.

Like any other kind of basic training anywhere else, these classes cost USD 10-15 per hour (per week) – and are typically arranged for 8-10 weeks a time. Some of the companies are local to Bay Area, while some have national presence. While a couple are local programmes, for the classical forms.
