SanGaMa- theTrivalley Malayali (Kerala) group!

Due to our growth over the years, we have folks from all over tri-valley and hence we recently renamed our group to “SanGaMa” to mean gathering of Malayali community in the trivalley area. Check out our new website at http://www.sangama.us/ . If you have roots in Kerala and are living in Dublin, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Danville or planning to move here, you will find the group helpful.

We recently celebrated Onam with much fanfare and are getting started with planning our  Christmas get-together. Check out the site for more details or join our facebook page. Check out the videos and pics at the website!

 

What is SanGaMa ?
Started in late 2009, this a  friendly group started for the  benefit of Malayalis living in San Francisco East Bay locations like   San Ramon, Dublin, Danville and Pleasanton … We celebrate  festivals  of Kerala like Onam,Vishu, Christmas/New Year  etc…This also functions as a forum for networking with other Malayali  (Kerala) families in the area.    We have periodic  get-togethers for our main events or we go for short-trips in the bay area or we just hang out with one another occasionally! If you know of  other families with roots in Kerala in the neighborhood who might be interested, please spread the word.

People living in San Ramon, Dublin, Danville & Pleasanton areas  would find this group useful. It includes major communities like  Windemere and Gale Ranch in San Ramon.

ABC SunnyCare is a Large Family Daycare that offers quality childcare comparable to any formal preschool/childcare, at an affordable rate. We have clean spacious open floor plan with very limited home furniture but lots of preschool furniture and toys for the kids to explore.

There are two full time staff and one part time staff working at ABC SunnyCare. All of our staff love to work with young children and has education and experience in early childhood education.​

We love to work with you and your child playing a vital role building the foundation of your child for his/her better future. We strive to provide safe enjoyable and nurturing environment, nutritious foods and loving care. Every day’s Nutritious food provided are freshly home cooked and are up to the standard set by the government food program. Breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks are provided.

We follow preschool curriculum and learn through various age appropriate activities that promotes hand eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, emotional, cognitive and intellectual development.

Our academic achievement starts from learning the letters and counting numbers, and heads to letter and number recognition, learning phonics and practice writing, counting by 1′s and 10′s to 100, world building, addition, subtraction, calendar, clock and beyond.

Our children, before reaching their 4th Birthday, build the ability to,
•Count and recognizes number to 100.
•Writes A to Z, a to z and number up to 30.
•Read 3 letter words.
•Does addition and subtraction on one digit numbers.

Regardless of our age or stage, yoga meets us where we’re at. For children, Yoga can help develop their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. Their concentration can improve along with their ability to relax and feel calm, which helps them to cope with the conflict and stress of an increasingly hectic world.
More than being just great exercise, Yoga is a way of life that teaches Kids the ancient system of practice which focuses postures/asanas along with healthy food styles for the body, breathing & relaxation techniques for the mind, concentration exercises for the intellect and meditation for the soul. It encourages kids to play, connect more deeply with their inner self, and develop a receptive relationship to the natural world around them. It encourages self-esteem and body awareness, and fosters cooperation and compassion, instead of competition.

Yoga helps our little ones to explore the ethics of “Yamas” (healthy, loving attitudes & values) with teenagers learning to apply Yoga’s ancient wisdom to modern-day life challenges. Teaches awareness in decision-making and choices where an internal compass could be challenged or compromised.

Through Yoga, children can discover how unique, worthy, and complete they are. They learn to care for their bodies with Yoga when they are young, and start developing healthy habits, which will serve them all lifelong.

Want to try some Yoga classes for your kids? Universal Peace Foundation of NA (UPFNA) is now offering ongoing Kids yoga classes on Sundays for 4-12 year olds.

Founding and artistic director Chandrika Pai is an accomplished Carnatic vocalist, performer and teacher. She has been teaching and performing in the US for the past 11 years. Her repertoire comprises traditional Carnatic gems, timeless Kannada compositions of Purandara Dasa and other composers, evergreen Marathi abhangs, Annamacharya’s keertanas in Telugu, and popular Konkani devotional songs. Students are provided with both theoretical and practical aspects of the vocal art form, while adhering to a traditional guru-parampara style.

Dharma and Yoga Fest in Pleasanton

Listen to Anuradha Paudwal and others over Kirtan, enjoy classical dance and music, indulge in Yoga, and for kids, they can enjoy the Balgopal Theme Park, or watch Krishna Leela, a performance by no less than 250 kids of Balgokulam. Top this with free food, free entrance, and free parking. All this at Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton, CA on September 14, 2013 from 11 AM till 9 PM.

This well publicized pan-Bay Area event is being organized under the aegis of different organizations. The main organizers of the event is Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) with the support from local organizations. If you are in the tri valley area, you may see posters saying Sri Dutta Sai Mandir, San Ramon, and at other places its the Fremont or Sunnywale Hindu temple. The event has different sponsors for the consumption of different geographies in the Bay Area.

Ultimately, it is to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, with a tag line of Universal Peace Through Dharma and Yoga.

There is also a performance by Jay Uttal, a ‘Spiritual Music Composer and Singer’ and Karnamrita Dasi and the group Kirtaniyas.  The dignitaries expected to attend are Dr. Ved Nanda, Paramacharya Palaniswami, Sannyasin Senthilnathaswami,  Sister Denise Lawrence and  Swami Prasannatmananda. What stands out is that many of them have made a name from themselves, though they are not from India.

Supporting local Organization are Sri Datta Sai Mandir – San Ramon,  Shea homes, Geeta Society, Art of Living, and the support is rounded off by Mata Amritanandmayi Center and Shiva-Vishnu Temple, Livermore. There are many more organizations and individuals that have a role in the program, including sessions by Brahma Kumaris, and others.

The organizers have taken care to cover every aspect of the culture – from Dandiya, Tabla, Bhangra, Folk Dances, Mrudungam, Bharatnayam, Kathak, Geeta Recital to Patriotic songs.

If it is what it promises to be, its worth a visit this coming Saturday!
